Many people find that essential oil of Fir reminds them of the scent of Christmas trees. Indeed, this association may be the reason that Fir is often used as an antidepressant; giving us a profound feeling of belonging. Fir is a very good oil to use for grounding. It reminds us that we are one with the earth; making us feel protected and secure.
Fir oil is steam distilled from the needles of the tree. Essential oil of Fir contains the chemicals santene, tricyclene, myrcene, and piperitone among others.
Like all the other essential oils distilled from coniferous trees, Fir is used mostly for its effect on the respiratory system. It seems to penetrate more deeply into the lungs than other oils like Pine and Spruce. It can be inhaled or burned in a diffuser for bronchitis, asthma, and chest colds.
Fir can also be blended into a massage oil for joint and/or muscle pain. It is warming to the body and helps stop muscle spasms.
Here at Kamala's Own, Fir is an ingredient in our Respiratory Relief blend, as well as our seasonal Yule blend. Don’t forget to try our Yule incense sticks, which also have Fir as an ingredient!
Always dilute your essential oils in an unscented carrier oil like Sesame or Jojoba. Do not take essential oils internally. Always store essential oils out of heat and sunlight. Keep essential oils away from children and pregnant women.
