Kamala's Own

Regular price $7.00 Sale

The name Ylang Ylang means “flower of flowers” in Indonesian. The Indonesians use it as a wedding flower, strewing it on the beds of newly married couples. In the Philippines, Ylang Ylang flowers are macerated in coconut oil and used for fevers and infections. The macerated Ylang Ylang oil is also used as a facial tonic and to protect hair from the effects of salt water. In Victorian times, Ylang Ylang was one of the main ingredients in a very popular scalp oil known as Macassar.

The scent of Ylang Ylang essential oil has been described as heady, narcotic, and exotic. In fact, Ylang Ylang should always be used in moderation as too much exposure to it has been known to cause headaches and nausea. The best way to experience the unusual scent of Ylang Ylang essential oil is to dilute it in a high quality carrier oil such as Jojoba or Sesame. When diluted, the sweeter and more floral aspects of this scent emerge, and the euphoric effect of the scent can be better appreciated.

Ylang Ylang is excellent for the skin and scalp. I t can be used in a conditioner or in a hair oil to stimulate hair growth and prevent dandruff. Ylang Ylang can be added to a facial oil to help balance oily skin and prevent breakouts. It is especially helpful for combination skin and itchy conditions.

One of the main physical effects of Ylang Ylang is its ability to stop heart palpitations. It is useful for high blood pressure and is generally regarded as a gentle sedative which can help with insomnia. Ylang Ylang quiets the nerves and imparts a feeling of serene balance, which can help with frustration and anger.

Ylang Ylang is effective in easing menstrual cramps and can ease some symptoms of menopause as well. Studies have found that inhaling Ylang Ylang can even stop the onset of an epileptic seizure.

Many people regard Ylang Ylang as a very sensual scent. It stimulates the adrenal glands and is well-known as an aphrodisiac. Ylang Ylang is often recommended for impotence and frigidity, as well as for depression and anxiety. The scent of Ylang Ylang seems to impart a feeling of self-confidence and balance, allowing one to let go of guilt, and be more sensitive to others. Ylang Ylang allows us to integrate our sexual and emotional natures, and feel the divine unity with all creatures.

Here at Kamala's Own, you can find Ylang Ylang as itself, or as an ingredient in the Potion of Luuv aromatherapy blend, the Confidence Booster aromatherapy blend, the Cancer astrologic blend, and the Maiden blend, among others.
